Key Responsibilities of the Role: 

  • Serve as Council’s Principal Accounting Officer, responsible for the preparation of all statutory returns and reports as per Australian Accounting Standards. 

  • Cultivate and sustain positive relationships both internally and externally, founded on respect, commitment, and credibility. 
  • Implement strategies, policies, and structures to support organisational performance objectives, ensuring autonomy, accountability, and financial sustainability.
  • Provide the Executive Management Team with timely, accurate, and informed advice and reports, particularly regarding financial sustainability indicators and decision-making. 
  • Oversee the delivery of Council’s Annual Budget, Long Term Financial Plan, and associated programs within approved budgets and timelines. 
  • Develop, monitor, and report on Council’s Long Term Financial Plan, Annual Budget, and overall financial sustainability. 
  • Manage investments to maximize returns while adhering to documented policies and conducting regular cash flow reviews. 

What You Will Bring:

  • Qualifications and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field, complemented by a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) qualification or equivalent. 

  • Knowledge and Technical Skills: Contemporary experience in developing organisational budgets, long-term financial plans, and reporting financial performance within an integrated planning and reporting framework. 

  • Financial Reporting: Proven expertise in preparing statutory financial reports and annual financial statements compliant with legislative requirements. 

  • Leadership and Teamwork: Exceptional ability to provide strategic leadership, work collaboratively with the Executive team, and cultivate a motivated and high-performing team culture. 

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: High-level computing skills and proficiency in Business System Finance Modules and Microsoft Office Suite to develop and implement business processes supporting Council’s strategic objectives. 

  • Ability to Deliver in a Compliant Manner: Demonstrated effectiveness in meeting demanding deadlines in a collaborative manner, ensuring compliance with Council’s budget and financial reporting requirements. 

  • Must possess or willing to obtain a National Police Check, relevant financial background checks, and a current Driver’s Licence.
