Apprentice Parks and Gardens (Horticulturalist)
Location: Deniliquin
Employment Type: Full-time, 4 Year Fixed Term Apprenticeship

Are you passionate about nature, gardening, and working outdoors? We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Parks and Gardens (Horticulturalist) to join our team! As an Apprentice, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in maintaining and enhancing public parks, gardens, and recreational areas, all while undertaking on-the-job training as part of a structured Parks & Gardens Apprenticeship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the maintenance and care of local parks, gardens, and recreational areas.
  • Plant, prune, water, and maintain trees, shrubs, flowers, and other horticultural features.
  • Operate garden tools and machinery in a safe and effective manner.
  • Work with the team to carry out landscaping tasks, including turf management, weeding, and mulching.
  • Participate in the preparation, maintenance, and improvement of public green spaces.
  • Assist in the implementation of horticultural best practices, including pest and disease management.
  • Learn from experienced horticulturists and trainers to develop your knowledge and skills in a Local Government environment.

 

Key Requirements:

  • Strong interest in horticulture, parks, and gardening.
  • A passion for working outdoors and contributing to the beautification of local community spaces.
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a good work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness to perform manual tasks associated with gardening and landscaping work.
  • Prior experience in horticulture or gardening is desirable but not essential.
