Edward River Council Begins Preparations for September Local Election

Published on 07 June 2024

New South Wales Local Government Elections will be conducted on September 14th and Edward River Council (ERC) has begun preparations to support interested community members to stand as candidates.

The process will see the election of nine Councillors who will serve for a four-year term and play a vital role in advocating for residents' needs and leading the region's development.

“This is an opportunity for individuals who demonstrate strong leadership and are committed to making sound decisions for the benefit of our region to build a robust, resilient, and connected Edward River,” said Gary Arnold, Interim Chief Executive Officer at ERC.

Local council represents the level of government closest to the community, providing essential infrastructure, facilities, and services that are crucial for local development.

Council plays a pivotal role in advocating for residents' needs and leading the region into the future.

To support potential candidates, Council is hosting two information sessions on 27 June (5:30pm-9:00pm) and 28 June (9:00am-12:00pm) at the Deniliquin Town Hall.

These sessions will provide valuable insights and help individuals determine if becoming a Councillor is the right fit for them.

The nomination period for candidates runs from 5 August to 14 August 2024.
