Edward River Council has awarded the lease for the maintenance and operation of Deniliquin Saleyards to local resident, Greg White, whose tenure begins on 1 September.
Greg “Lumpy” White is a highly regarded local figure and a former auctioneer who brings a wealth of expertise in all aspects of efficient saleyards management.
Working in collaboration with selling agents, Mr White will conduct fortnightly sales days, with the inaugural sheep sale under this new administration scheduled for Tuesday 12 September.
With a substantial capacity to accommodate up to 100,000 sheep, this facility plays a pivotal role in the region's economy. Edward River Council’s Mayor Cr Peta Betts said Council was looking forward to the new arrangement commencing.
"Mr White will actively participate in Council's Saleyards Advisory Committee, which is currently in the midst of a comprehensive facility review. Our focus extends to the future of the cattle yards, as well as implementing essential repairs and safety enhancements across the entire site."
Mayor Betts underscored the significance of the Deniliquin Saleyards as a vital asset for the local livestock industry.
“Council remains committed to ensuring the seamless operation of this facility, one that adeptly serves the needs of both selling agents and buyers in the region.”
